This is a brick pit in Olympic Park/Homebush. It was going to become a tennis 'venue' of some kind (I would love to see what was planned and whether it involved filling the pit in, or making use of its morphology) until some meddling frogs got in the way, and now there's an elevated catwalk and people working in nearby offices seem to enjoy power-walking their way around it during their lunch hour. That's basically it. The whole thing is fenced off and monitored by security 24/7 and I couldn't see any evidence of antisocial or informal use, sad for me but good for the frogs that live there I suppose.
You can find a much better blog post about the brick pit here.
thanks
